I haven't been to Minneapolis before--I've never even considered visiting because it's supposed to be so cold! turns out that the weather is fairly similar to what we experience out here in the boonies of DeKalb. I was pretty hesitant to go because of money issues, but Eric managed to convince me and I'm glad he did.
we stayed with one of Lara's old friends, Ria, who is awesome! so great of her to put up four total strangers for the weekend and show us the sights. Minneapolis is a cool town--not too small and not too big, super bike friendly, full of diverse restaurants and coffee shops....I wish we'd had more time to check everything out. it's definitely made my list of places to live.
some photos from part one of the trip:

the first morning, Ria took us to a bakery called The Bakers Wife for breakfast. I had a ham and cheese crossaint which was pretty tasty. next to the bakery is the half coffee shop, half bike shop Angry Catfish Bicycle Bar. I've been following them on facebook pretty much since they opened, and always wanted to visit. if you're ever in Minneapolis and have a hankering for a delicious cup of coffee or want to look at some cool bike stuff, I highly recommend stopping by the Angry Catfish! (they also rent out fatbikes!)
here is e-dog chomping on an Angry Catfish water bottle filled with some cool Rapha socks he bought.
this guy rented a fatbike from the Angry Catfish for his kid to ride. super cute!
some of that good old winter slush.

reading a nice boneshaker.
Ria took us to the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts. it was pretty neat! here is a nice view of downtown from the top floor.
being a photography student, I quickly found the only photography exhibit in the museum. at first I was a little weirded out by the choice of robins egg blue on the walls, but it actually worked well. there was some nice stuff on the walls! Dorthea Lange's Migrant Mother was up. I always love seeing classics and famous photographs in real life. it's a completely different experience than the studying copies in art history classes and such.
here is Eric the graphic designer looking totally bored with old photographs.
